Welcome to Japan History’s contact page, or as I like to think of it, my ‘meyasu-bako’. In 1721, Tokugawa Yoshimune, 8th shogun of the Muromachi shogunate, created a suggestions box to be used by all citizens of Edo, and placed it outside the shogunate’s litigation offices. Any member of Edo society regardless of status had the right to place their suggestions in the box. Among the many improvements to the city that cavme from the box were Edo’s infamous fire brigade and a medical centre where the sick and impoverished could receive free health care.
Hopefully this ‘meyasu-bako’ will go on to help Japan History, just as Yoshimune’s meyasu-bako helped Edo. For that reason, if you have any thoughts, suggestions, or questions, please feel free to send them to me at any time. I look forward to hearing from you all.
